Most top-level esports matches are played as a series of maps or games rather than one contest. Once you know the format, the markets make a lot more sense.
The best-of-three format
In a best-of-three, the first team to win two maps takes the series. That means there are only four possible final scores: 2–0, 2–1, 1–2 or 0–2.
Map handicap
A −1.5 map handicap means a team needs to win 2–0. A +1.5 handicap is covered if the team wins the series or loses it 2–1 — in other words, if it wins at least one map.
Total maps
Over 2.5 maps means the series goes to a deciding third map. Under 2.5 means it finishes 2–0 either way.
Best-of-one and best-of-five
Group stages often use best-of-one matches, where only the match winner market makes sense. Grand finals are often best-of-five, which opens up more correct-score and handicap options.
